Merchant Taylors Company

Merchant Taylors' Educational Trust

Overseeing the Company's educational interest is the Merchant Taylors' Educational Trust

The Trustees are members of Court with a particular interest in education and include the Chairmen of Governors of Merchant Taylors' School and St. John's School respectively. The Trust was created by Deed in 1967 but the scope was enhanced in 1996 by new arrangements for the governance of Merchant Taylors' School, Sandy Lodge and St. John's School, Northwood.

That enhanced role of the Merchant Taylors' Educational Trust includes responsibility to the Court for:-

  • ensuring the due governance of Merchant Taylors' School and St. John's School respectively;
  • the Company's association with the various other Schools, namely Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby; Merchant Taylors' School for Girls, Crosby; Wolverhampton Grammar School; Foyle and Londonderry College in Northern Ireland, Wallingford School, Oxford and King's School, Macclesfield.
  • matters of education generally and initiatives of an educational nature mainly involving the various Schools with which it is associated.

In addition to the Merchant Taylors' Educational Trust, there are a number of other Trusts administered by the Company for School Prizes, Scholarships and Bursaries.
