“The Merchant Taylors’ Company very much regrets learning the news concerning the Ranyard Nursing Charity and the imminent closure of its care homes in Lewisham and Blackheath. The Ranyard is not a part of the Merchant Taylors’ Company, which has no role in either its management or governance.
“The Merchant Taylors’ Company, through certain charities that it does manage, has assisted and supported the Ranyard Nursing Charity over many years, most significantly in its Christopher Boone’s Charity funding of the building of Mulberry House. It now has to be acknowledged that operating conditions in general have forced the Ranyard into its current predicament, one faced by many relatively small but much cherished caring institutions.
“The Merchant Taylors’ Charities will continue to provide support to the elderly and needy in the borough, most particularly in its provision of modern, fit for purpose and care-ready new almshouse accommodation, the building of which is due to start shortly.”
