In late March, the UK went into lockdown. those early days and weeks were tense and many people's lives were shaken to their core; places of work, and learning were closed and shuttered and many were told to shield in their homes for the foreseeable.

In April 2020, we launched our Merchant Taylors' Foundation, the flagship new charity for Merchant Taylors'. We did this earlier than planned due to the outbreak, recognising even in those early weeks of lockdown, that the pandemic would have seismic impacts upon life as we knew it. Over April and May, the Company answered our call and donated generously to our coronavirus appeal to help those hit hardest by the COVID-19.

Never has it been so vital to help others at a moment of greatest need. If we were ever looking for that time to know when our help was needed, this was it. Read on for more on the charities and community organisations Merchant Taylors supported.

A man walks down steps and straightens his tie

In May we reached our target to raise £50,000 from across the Company's membership. The Company also made a £500,000 donation to the Foundation to support charities and schools as they grappled with the on-going effects of coronavirus.

The impact of coronavirus will continue to be felt for some time to come and Merchant Taylors can be proud that they rose to the challenge in those early months of the outbreak, and that through the Foundation, those who need help the most will be able to find it.
